My family and I went to the Melia Cayo Santa Maria on July 26, 2009. It was our third trip to the resort and again, we were very pleased with our holiday. It may seem odd to go in the summer, but, it is summer in Cuba too and an awful lot better than the summer we'd been having in Canada!!! (rain, rain, rain...). Anyway, the rooms are lovely, clean and spacious, the food is quite good (it has improved substantially in the last couple of years), the pool is kept very clean, the beach is beautiful. It is not a loud over-the-top resort (children are no longer allowed at Melia, they are welcome at Sol, next door), and frankly for a quiet relaxing holiday, this place can not be beat!!! So many guests at the resort said that this is the best place to stay in all of Cuba. The Santa Clara airport is small, the bus ride is fairly long (about 90 minutes) but interesting and the 30 mile long causeway to get out to the island of Santa Maria is a beautiful part of the journey. The best part of this resort however is the people. They are friendly, accomodating and probably just about the nicest you'll find anywhere! We look forward to returning next year!!

We have just spent two weeks here. We had a fantastic time. The hotel is lovely and the staff are excellent. We would recommend this destination to anyone. Thanks to our friends Ian and Christine from scotland.

We stayed in this hotel after much deliberation between two and we are really pleased we chose this one. The staff are great and the hotel is fabulous as we had no complaints about anything - well apart from the food however it was improving every day we were there. The staff will go above and beyond for you and Daniel the Pancake guy is amazing, his pan cakes are to die for but he also went on his day off to buy me a lemon to have on my pan cakes. The maids make sure your room is clean and we always had funky shapes made out of the towels. I cannot stress how good this hotel is the beach is lovely with free water sports and you really don't want to come home. Also if you are from the UK and go with Thomas cook the rep is fantastic. This holiday was well worth it.

We're a middle aged couple, in our 50's and must say, this was an outstanding vacation; a most excellent respite from the cold winter here in Canada. I'm not going to repeat the features/functions which are for the most part very well described in the other reviews below. However, let me start by saying that the flight (Air Transat) was quite pleasant, and the drive over the cause from the airport to the resort was very enjoyable.
The really good part of the vacation was the Melia Cayo Santa Maria resort; a terrific facility, great people, beautiful weather. The hotel facilities were outstanding. The management and staff really delivered a terrific time. Outstanding!!
Looking forward to returning again real soon.

My boyfriend and I (age 26 & 30) stayed at the Melia Cayo Santa Maria May 19-26. This was our first all-inclusive and it will be pretty hard to top.
The beach is GORGEOUS!! We couldn't believe our eyes when we first saw it! Perfect white sand and crystal clear turquise water...unbelievable! The resort grounds are lush and beautiful. The pools are clean and gorgeous. Our first room was on the ground floor and had many bugs so we asked for a second floor room. We were moved the next morning and did not see one more bug the rest of our stay. The rooms are so clean, pretty and spacious. The food is okay, as it is everywhere in Cuba. The resort seemed half-full and was mostly couples and some families, not many little kids at all but there is a kids pool. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, this is the resort! This is not a party/spring break type resort, thank god. The Cuban people that work there are so cute and so hard working. They are a big part of what makes this resort is so great... You can change your Canadian money at the airport (also at hotel) and be sure to get single pesos to tip your maid and your servers. They all work so hard.
To sum it up, this resort was amazing, we were very sad to leave and will definately return!!
